Record a clip automatically on motion
Have chosen cameras save a 20-second clip each time they capture an event.
What it does
A camera you choose records a 20-second clip each time this device captures an event for it. The clip is saved in Clips and linked to the event. It is off for every camera until you turn it on, because video takes far more space than pictures.
It needs automatic events, which need the Standard or Pro plan and Motion border on. See How on-device events work.
Turn it on
- 01Choose More, then Recording & Storage.
- 02Under Recording defaults, check that Recording mode is On motion. It is by default. 24/7 cannot be chosen.
- 03In Live, bring the camera onto the main picture, choose Settings, then Advanced Settings.
- 04Open Camera Features and turn on Record a clip on motion.
Watch a motion clip
- 01Open the event in Events.
- 02Choose Watch the clip. In a window under 700 points wide, the clip opens on its own page. In a wider window, Clips opens behind the event: close the event with the X to find the clip there.
- The clip is also listed in Clips with your other recordings.
Good to know
- A clip starts once the event picture has been saved, so it begins after the motion was detected. It does not include the seconds before: Pre-event buffer is shown as not available yet.
- Clips are recorded from the Recording quality stream, Main by default.
- If the camera is already recording, no second clip starts.
- No message appears in the app when a motion clip is saved. When SecureEyes is not in front, a "Clip ready" notification is shown.
- With Recording mode set to Off, the switch is greyed out. Its note names "Settings › Events & Storage": that section is Recording & Storage.
