Play, save and delete clips

Find your recordings in Clips, play them, save or share them, delete them, and set how long they are kept.

Open Clips

  1. 01iPhone: tap Clips in the bar at the bottom.
  2. 02iPad and Mac: choose Clips in the dock. On a Mac you can also choose View, then Clips, or press Command-3.
  • The bar is used whenever the window's shorter side is under 600 points, so a small Mac window shows the bar instead of the dock.

What you see

  • Clips are listed newest first and grouped by day. Each shows the time, size and length. FROM HUB marks a clip cut by your Hub. Saving… marks one still being finished; it cannot be played yet.
  • When the Clips area is 880 points wide or more (for example a wide Mac window or an iPad in landscape), the list is on the left and the chosen clip plays on the right. With clips from 2 or more cameras, chips at the top filter by camera.
  • In a narrower window, choosing a clip opens it on its own page.
  • With no clips yet, the page says No clips yet. Choose Go to Live to record one. See Record a clip from Live.
  • "This clip's file is no longer on this device" means the video file is gone. You can still delete the clip.

Play a clip

  1. 01Choose the clip. In the wide layout nothing plays until you choose one.
  2. 02On the clip's own page, use the speaker button for sound. It is greyed out when the clip has no audio.

Save or share it

  • Save to Photos converts the clip to MP4 and adds it to Photos. "Saved to Photos" then offers Open Photos.
  • On a Mac in the wide layout the button is Download instead. It saves an MP4 in your Downloads folder, and then reads Download again.
  • Share sends the clip file with the share sheet. See Save or share a snapshot, event or clip.

Delete a clip

  1. 01In the narrow list, swipe the clip to the left and choose Delete, or open it and choose Delete. In the wide layout, choose the clip, then Delete.
  2. 02A message says Clip deleted and how much space was freed. Choose Undo while it is showing (about 6 seconds) to keep the clip.
  • If your Hub also has the clip, you are asked first. Choose Only on this device or Delete on the Hub too.

Work with several clips

  1. 01Choose Select.
  2. 02Tick clips, or choose Select all for a day.
  3. 03In the narrow list, choose Share or Delete 3 (the number you ticked). In the wide layout, choose Delete 3, or Download 3 on a Mac.
  4. 04Choose Done to leave.

How long clips are kept

  1. 01Choose More, then Recording & Storage.
  2. 02Under Recording defaults, choose Keep recordings: Until deleted, 7 days, 14 days (the default), 30 days or 90 days. Older clips are deleted when the app opens.
  3. 03Choose a Clip storage limit: 2.0 GB, 4.0 GB, 8.0 GB (the default) or 16 GB. When the app opens and clips are over it, the oldest are deleted first, copies from a Hub before clips recorded on this device.
  • Clips are stored on this device only and are not included in device backups.
