Save or share a snapshot, event or clip

Nothing goes to Photos by itself. How to take a snapshot, and how to save or share a picture or a clip when you choose to.

The rule

Nothing SecureEyes captures goes to Photos by itself. Event pictures, snapshots and clips stay in the app until you choose to save or share one. A copy you add to Photos then follows your photo library's own iCloud settings.

The first time you save anything to Photos, your device asks for permission to use your photo library. If you do not allow it, saving fails with Photos access is off.

Take a snapshot

  1. 01In Live, bring the camera onto the main picture.
  2. 02Choose Snapshot, the large round button in the middle of the row under the picture.
  3. 03A preview opens. The picture is already saved in Events as "Snapshot · Front Door" (with your camera's name) and follows your event retention.
  4. 04Choose Share, or Add to Photos. After a save the button reads Save again.
  • The first time you choose Add to Photos on a device, a message explains that Photos may sync the picture to iCloud Photos.
  • "Camera is still starting up" means there is no picture yet. Try again once it appears.

Save or share an event picture

  1. 01Open the event in Events.
  2. 02Choose Save to Photos or Share.
  • In the list, in a window at least 640 points wide, each row also has a download button (tooltip Save to Photos). In a narrower window (an iPhone held upright), swipe a row to the right to Save it.
  • Saving makes a copy. The event stays in Events.

Save or share a clip

  1. 01Open Clips and choose the clip.
  2. 02Choose Save to Photos. The clip is converted to MP4 and added to Photos.
  3. 03On a Mac with a wide Clips window (880 points or more), the button is Download instead: an MP4 is saved in your Downloads folder.
  4. 04To send the file another way, choose Share.
  • Share sends the clip as it is stored. A clip recorded on this device is stored as a Matroska (.mkv) file. Save to Photos and Download give an MP4.
  • If Record audio is off, Save to Photos leaves the sound out. The switch is in any camera's Camera Features and applies to all cameras. The stored clip keeps its sound.

If saving fails

  • Photos access is off (SE-STOR-004): allow SecureEyes to add photos in your device's privacy settings. In an event, Share instead opens the share sheet.
  • Could not save to Photos (SE-STOR-003): Photos refused the file. Try again.
  • Could not export (SE-STOR-006): the clip could not be converted or shared. Try again.
