Save, download and delete clips

A clip is a piece of recorded footage the Hub keeps for good. Save one from Footage or from an event, then play, download or delete it under Clips.

What a clip is

A clip is a span of footage the Hub already recorded, copied out and kept. It is cut without re-encoding, so it is what the camera sent, frame for frame. The camera keeps recording the whole time. Clips are never deleted to make room.

  • A clip is at most one hour.
  • Footage from the last few minutes cannot be cut yet: the Hub adds each five-minute segment only after it closes.
  • A clip saved on Footage uses the full-resolution recording when the camera recorded main for the whole span. Cut 20 s around it on an event always uses the sub stream.
  • It keeps the camera's sound unless Settings, Recording, Sound in clips is off.
  • Clips are named by camera and start time. You cannot give one a name of your own.

Save a clip while you watch

  1. 01Open Footage, a camera and a day, and play it.
  2. 02In CAPTURE A CLIP, choose Record clip when the moment starts. A clock runs and CLIP shows on the picture.
  3. 03Choose Save clip when it ends. Or choose Discard.

Save a clip by its two ends

  1. 01Move the playhead to the start and choose Mark in.
  2. 02Move to the end and choose Mark out. The panel shows the times, the length and about how big it will be.
  3. 03Choose Save clip. Clear removes the marks.

Save 20 seconds around an event

  1. 01Open Events and choose a still.
  2. 02Choose Cut 20 s around it. The page says “Kept 20 seconds around HH:MM in Clips”.

Play, download or share a clip

  1. 01Choose Clips in the rail. Clips are grouped by day.
  2. 02Choose a clip. It plays on the left.
  3. 03Choose Download to save it. The file is MKV, named by camera and time.
  4. 04Or choose Copy link. The link carries this browser's sign-in, so treat it like a key.

Delete clips

  1. 01Choose Delete under the playing clip. Or tick several clips with the box on each card and choose Delete in the bar.
  2. 02Confirm with Delete the clip (or Delete N clips). Cancel keeps them.
It may be the last copy

The footage a clip came from may already have been recycled, so deleting the clip can delete the only copy.

When a clip will not save

  • “Press play first”: a capture starts at the playhead.
  • “A clip is at most an hour. Move a mark closer.”
  • “that moment is still being written...”: wait a few minutes and save again.
  • “nothing recorded in that window”: the camera did not record then.
  • “this Hub has no ffmpeg, so it cannot cut a clip.”: install ffmpeg on the Hub machine.
