Change a camera's settings on the Hub
Rename a camera, set the text it burns into its picture, change its stream quality and connection mode, or remove it, from its page on the Hub.
Open a camera
- 01Choose Cameras in the rail. Filter by name or address narrows the list.
- 02Choose the camera's row. Its page opens on the General tab.
- 03The tabs are General, Video, Detection, Recording, Wall, Access and About & upkeep. ‹ All cameras goes back.
Rename it
- 01On General, type the new name in Camera name. It can be up to 80 characters.
- 02Choose Save.
- The name is what SecureEyes shows on every paired device. It does not change the camera, unless its on-screen text follows the name.
- While the on-screen text follows the name, a name longer than the text limit is refused. Use a shorter name, or choose Stop under Follows the name first.
Change the text the camera shows on its picture
- 01On General, in ON-SCREEN TEXT, choose Check. The Hub asks the camera.
- 02Type the text in Text and choose Save. The limit is shown beside it, as “Up to N characters.”
- 03To move it, choose a corner under Corner: Top left, Top right, Bottom left or Bottom right. Only the corners the camera allows are shown.
- After a save, renaming the camera also rewrites its on-screen text. Follows the name says so. Choose Stop to end that; the camera keeps the text it shows now.
- If the camera does not allow it, the page says “This camera does not let us change its on-screen text”. Its own web page may still offer it.
- Not confirmed means the camera did not say whether it allows it. A save tries, and checks whether it took.
Change stream quality
- 01On Video, in STREAM QUALITY, choose Read from camera.
- 02Choose the Stream to change. It opens on the sub stream.
- 03Choose Resolution, Frame rate and Keyframe interval.
- 04Choose Apply. It stays off until something differs. The Hub writes the change to the camera and reads it back.
- “Set to W×H” means the camera took it. “The camera kept W×H (it refused silently)” means it did not.
- If the camera does not expose its encoder, the page says “Could not read the encoder over ONVIF.”
- The change applies to every viewer, the Hub and the app.
Watch one stream live
On Video, choose a still under ONE FRAME PER STREAM, or on About & upkeep choose a stream under Watch a stream. It plays in a dialog. Close ends it.
Change the connection mode
On Access, Connection mode has Reliable · TCP, the default, and Low latency · UDP. The camera reconnects when you switch.
When a camera sends no motion events
On Detection, Where motion is decided shows the Hub's watch on the camera's own motion reports.
- HARDWARE: the Hub receives the camera's motion events.
- RETRYING: the subscription dropped and is coming back.
- PARKED: the camera refused the same way eight times, so the Hub asks only every six hours. Overview lists it with SE-STA-018. After fixing the camera, choose Try again.
- NO EVENTS: this camera offers no ONVIF events.
Remove a camera
- 01Choose the About & upkeep tab.
- 02Under Remove this camera, choose Remove.
- 03The button changes to Really remove? Footage goes too. Choose it within four seconds.
Removing a camera deletes its sign-in, its settings, its recorded footage and its events. Its clips also leave the Clips page. Download anything you need before you remove it.
If a change is refused
A Hub with an owner and no valid licence is blocked. It takes none of these changes, asks the camera nothing, and serves no live stream. See When the Hub is blocked.
