Point the Hub's recordings at an SMB share on a NAS. The Hub mounts it soft, so a NAS that goes away costs a gap, not a stuck Hub.
Mount the share
01Go to Settings, then Storage, and choose Change disk.
02Choose the Network share tab.
03Type the share, for example //nas/footage.
04Type the user name, or leave it blank for a guest mount, and the password.
05Choose Mount and use. The Hub mounts the share and tries a real write.
06On success the page says “Recording to //nas/footage now”. The Storage tab then shows THE SHARE, and its button reads Change storage.
The password is kept in a file only the Hub and root can read, never with the settings.
If the Hub has no mount.cifs, the tab says so: install cifs-utils on the Hub machine, then come back.
A Hub in a container cannot mount a share. The tab shows the host's commands instead: mount it on the host, soft, and hand it in as /mnt/share. It then appears under SHARES ALREADY MOUNTED ON THIS HUB with Use this mount.
Set a budget
Free space on a share belongs to the server and is shared with everything else on it. Other files can push footage out. Set a limit under Settings, Recording, Recording budget.
Stop using a share
While recordings are on a share, choose Change storage on the Storage tab, then a disk on This Hub's disks with Use this disk or Format and use. The Hub then unmounts the share and deletes its stored password by itself.
If you moved recordings with By path or Use this mount instead, the share stays mounted, and the Network share tab shows Forget beside it. Choose Forget to unmount it and delete its password. The page says “Forgot //nas/footage. Its password is deleted.” Forget is not offered for the share recordings are on now.
