When the recording disk is full, missing or refused
What SE-STA-006, SE-STA-015 and SE-STA-027 mean on the Hub's web page, and what to do for each.
The recording disk is not there (SE-STA-006)
The recordings folder does not exist: the disk is unplugged, has failed or is not mounted. Nothing new is recorded. Footage already on it is untouched and comes back with the disk.
- 01Check the disk is plugged in and powered. A USB enclosure has its own power supply.
- 02Restart the Hub: Overview, MAINTENANCE, Restart, then Restart again in the dialog “Restart the Hub?”. It mounts its chosen disk again as it starts.
- 03In a container, the disk is mounted on the host. See Set up a recording disk for a Hub in a container.
- 04If the disk is gone for good, fit another and choose it with Change disk.
- The Storage tab may add a likely cause: the Hub did not shut down cleanly (a power cut), or the board's power supply is too weak for its USB disk.
None of the disk problems on this page stop live viewing of your cameras. The licence case at the end does.
The recording storage is not answering (SE-STA-006)
Asking the storage for its size took too long. A network share whose server is off does this, and so does a failing disk.
- 01Check the server or disk is on and reachable from the Hub.
- 02Open Settings, Storage again. It asks afresh each time.
- 03If the storage is gone for good, choose another with Change disk.
The disk will not take a write (SE-STA-006)
The chip at the top of the page reads DISK WILL NOT TAKE WRITES. On Overview the item reads “The disk will not take a write”. On Events, Footage, Clips and the Storage tab, a strip reads “The recording disk is not answering”, followed by the system's own reason.
Every camera stops recording. Stills, footage and clips on that disk do not show or download until it is back. Nothing already recorded is deleted. Choose Storage on the strip to open the Storage tab.
The disk is nearly full
This is normal. When free space falls below the larger of about 8 GB and 5% of the disk, the Storage tab shows SE-STA-006 “The disk is nearly full”. The Hub deletes the oldest footage first, across all cameras, every few minutes. It keeps the largest of 10 GB, 5% of the disk, and about four hours of recording free, but never more than half the disk. Saved clips are never taken.
- 01To make room now, go to Settings, Storage and choose Clean up now.
- 02The page says what it removed, for example “Removed 12 segments (0 past retention, 12 for space) and freed 3.1 GB.”, or “Nothing to remove” when every segment is inside its retention and the reserve is met.
The disk is full of things the Hub will not delete (SE-STA-006)
Retention has removed all the footage it may, and what is left, kept clips or files that are not the Hub's, still leaves too little room. On Overview this reads “The disk stopped accepting writes”. Recording pauses and starts again by itself when there is room.
- 01Delete clips you no longer need. See Save, download and delete clips.
- 02On a share, make room on the server, or set a Recording budget.
- 03Or give recording a bigger disk. See Give the Hub a recording disk.
Recording refuses the boot device (SE-STA-015)
Recordings are set to go to the disk the Hub boots from, and the Hub refuses to wear it out. Nothing records until the Hub has a disk of its own. See Give the Hub a recording disk.
Retention is not deleting anything (SE-STA-027)
When the Hub's licence has ended or been revoked, it stops recording and also stops deleting old footage, so nothing already recorded is lost while it stays that way. A Hub with an owner is also blocked then, and serves no live view. See When the Hub is blocked and How the Hub's licence works.
