Set up a Hub from the app

Scan the code on the Hub's screen with SecureEyes on the device that has Pro. The app claims the Hub and activates Pro for it.

Before you start

  • The Hub is installed and running. The Hub docs cover installing it.
  • This device has Pro. Setting a Hub up needs it: without Pro, the app shows the plans instead and claims nothing.
  • This device is on the same network as the Hub, and online. Activating Pro needs the internet.
Not on sale yet

Pro is not on sale yet, so no Hub can be activated today. This is how it works once it can be.

Set it up

  1. 01Find the Hub's code. A new Hub shows it on the screen plugged into it, and on its web page at https://<Hub address>:8443.
  2. 02In SecureEyes, go to Settings, then Hub, and tap Scan QR.
  3. 03Point the camera at the code. On an iPhone the system Camera app works too: it opens SecureEyes.
  4. 04Wait while the app claims the Hub and activates Pro for it. A tick means it is ready.
On a Mac

A Mac with a camera scans the same way. On a Mac without one, look under Hubs on this network: for 15 minutes after it starts, a new Hub shows there as UNCLAIMED, and Claim this Hub sets it up. Or tap Enter code and type the link printed under the QR on the Hub's screen.

If Pro is not activated

  • Activating Pro needs an internet connection. The app says so, and tries again when this device is back online. The Hub starts working as soon as it succeeds.
  • One Pro purchase covers 3 Hubs. If all 3 are in use, the app lists them so you can remove one. See Hubs on your Pro plan.
  • Until Pro is activated, the Hub serves no live view and records nothing, and its screen says Activate Pro for this Hub.

If the scan fails

  • Could not reach the Hub at any of its addresses: this device is not on the Hub's network, or a VPN is in the way. The app tried every address in the code, then looked for the Hub on the network.
  • The device that answered is not the Hub in the code: something else answered at that address, so nothing was sent to it.
  • That Hub already has an owner: someone set it up already. Add this device with a code from a device that uses the Hub, or reset the Hub.
  • That code no longer works: the Hub makes a new code each time it starts. Scan the one on its screen now.
  • This Hub can only be claimed without its code in the first 15 minutes after it starts: scan its code instead.
