Why does the time in the picture not match Footage?

The time drawn on a camera's picture comes from the camera's own clock. The Hub stamps footage with its own clock. Check the Hub's clock, then set the camera's time server.

Two clocks

The date and time drawn on a camera's picture come from the camera's own clock. The Hub stamps everything it records with its own clock, and Footage, Events and Clips show that time. When the picture and the Hub disagree, the Hub's time is the true one, as long as the Hub sets its clock from the network.

  • A camera that cannot reach a time server keeps its own time, and its clock drifts minutes slow or fast. Some cameras ship set to a time server that does not exist, so they never set their clock at all.
  • For example, a camera whose picture says 8:25 while Footage says 8:30 is running five minutes slow. The recording is not five minutes late.

Check the Hub's clock

  1. On the Hub's page, open Settings, then the Time tab.
  2. THE CLOCK should read YES · THE SYSTEM CLOCK IS SET FROM THE NETWORK. If it does not, set a time source there. See Set the Hub's clock and time zone.

Set the camera's clock

  1. Find the camera's address: on the Hub's page, open Cameras and choose the camera. The address is under its name.
  2. On a computer on the same network, type that address into a browser, for example http://192.168.1.64, and sign in with the camera's administrator account.
  3. Open the camera's time settings. They are often under System, Time or Date and Time; the names differ by brand.
  4. Choose to set the time from an NTP server, and enter one the camera can reach: the Hub's own time source works, for example pool.ntp.org, or your router's address if it serves the time.
  5. Check that the camera's time zone matches the Hub's (shown on the Time tab).
  6. Save, wait a minute, then compare the time in the picture with Local time on the Hub's Time tab.
  • A camera that cannot reach the internet cannot use pool.ntp.org. Use your router's address if it serves the time, or set the time by hand and check it again every few weeks, because it drifts.
  • Changing a camera's clock does not change any footage, event or clip the Hub already recorded.
