TP-Link Tapo and VIGI cameras

Create a Camera Account in the Tapo app, then add the camera to SecureEyes. The stream paths, the green flashes fix, and what we have tested.

Before you add it

The Tapo app is TP-Link's, and its menus can differ by version.

  1. 01In the Tapo app, create a Camera Account for the camera. Your TP-Link cloud login does not work for ONVIF or RTSP.
  2. 02In SecureEyes, add the camera and sign in with that Camera Account. See Connect your first camera.
Router isolation

If your router keeps wireless devices apart (AP isolation, called Set AP Isolated on some ASUS routers), turn that off: it blocked the tested camera.

Ports and stream paths

  • ONVIF: the tested Tapo answers on port 2020. SecureEyes tries 2020 by itself, after your default ONVIF port and 80, 8899, 8000, 8080 and 5000.
  • SecureEyes treats a camera as TP-Link when the maker or model name it reports over ONVIF contains TP-Link, TPLink, Tapo or VIGI. It then uses /stream1 for the main stream and /stream2 for the substream. A camera that reports more than one lens over ONVIF gets the streams it reports instead.
  • RTSP: SecureEyes builds these paths on port 554. If the camera serves RTSP on another port, set it for that camera: Connection & Access > Stream profile > Enter Manually > RTSP port.

Green flashes on the picture

The Hardware decoding switch in Quick camera settings does the same. The record gives this as the fix for the tested camera.

  1. 01Open the camera's settings and choose Video.
  2. 02Open Advanced video settings and set Hardware decoding to Off.

What SecureEyes controls

  • SecureEyes has no direct controls for Tapo cameras yet: Tapo's own interface is not supported.
  • The Light button on Live can still switch night vision, if the camera offers it over ONVIF. See Move a camera and turn its light on.

What we tested

  • TP-Link Tapo C500 (firmware not recorded, 19 Aug 2026).
  • RTSP on port 554 works with a Camera Account; the cloud login is refused.
  • Its ONVIF service is on port 2020, and it announces itself on the network over WS-Discovery.
  • A lab test on 12 Aug 2026 recorded results by brand, not by model. For Tapo: pan worked over ONVIF, there was no zoom, and encoder changes were accepted and applied. A pan could keep going to the end of its travel instead of stopping when released. The record still lists this as an open problem.

Not tested yet

  • Whether a SecureEyes scan lists it.
  • ONVIF motion events.
  • The firmware version on the tested camera.
  • VIGI cameras on real hardware.
