When a location says "Not here" or "Off on this device"
With two or more locations, SecureEyes does not open the cameras of a place this device is shown to be away from. You can also switch a location off on one device.
What you see
When SecureEyes holds back every camera of the location Live shows, Live says why in place of the cameras:
- Not here: This device is at another location, so the cameras in (location) are not opened here. They come back when you are there.
- Off on this device: (location) is switched off on this device, so its cameras are not opened here. Your other devices are not changed. A Turn On Here button switches it back on.
- Checking where you are: A camera here shares its address with a camera in another location. This takes a moment. It lasts about 2 seconds.
- A different camera answered: Another camera answers at the address on file, so it is not opened. If the camera moved, update its address in its settings.
What "not opened" means
- A camera held back is left off Live and off your walls on this device. When only some cameras of a location are held back, the others play and no message shows.
- This device makes no events from it and sends no Camera is not responding. notification for it.
- Nothing is deleted. The camera keeps its settings, sign-in, events and clips, and plays again as soon as it is no longer held back.
- While Live is grouped by location, a held-back camera is simply not under its heading, and no message shows.
How SecureEyes tells where you are
SecureEyes sends each camera's address one short ONVIF discovery message, with no password, and reads which camera answers.
- A location is here when one of its cameras answers as itself, or when its Hub answers on this network.
- A location is elsewhere when a different camera answers at the address of one of its cameras.
- No answer, or an answer that names no camera, proves nothing. The camera is then opened as usual.
- It asks when SecureEyes starts, when this device's network changes, when you come back to SecureEyes after a minute or more away, when a camera's address changes, and every 10 minutes while SecureEyes is in front.
When a location says Not here
All of these must be true:
- You have two or more locations.
- The location has no Hub. A Hub reaches its cameras from anywhere, so a Hub location never says Not here.
- SecureEyes has shown that this device is somewhere else: the location is found to be elsewhere while another location is found to be here, or the camera shares its address with a camera in another location that is here.
When a different camera answers
This one applies with a single location too, to any camera that is not in a Hub's location. When SecureEyes can tell that a different camera answers at a camera's address, it does not open that camera. So it does not show one camera's picture under another's name, or send one camera's password to another.
- If the camera got a new address, update it: see Change a camera's name, location or address.
- A camera that cannot say over ONVIF which camera it is, is held back only when a camera of another location answers at its address.
Live follows you
- On Standard and Pro, when this device is found to be at exactly one location, Live switches to that location by itself.
- Once you pick a location by hand, Live stays on your choice until the location found here changes.
- It never switches while Live is grouped by location, and never to a location switched off on this device.
Switch a location off on this device
Switch a location off when this device should not open its cameras, for example a phone that never needs the office cameras. It works for any location, a Hub location included. Your other devices and the Hub are not changed, and the setting does not sync.
- Choose More, then Cams & Streams. On a Mac you can instead choose Cameras, Locations in the menu bar and skip the next step.
- In the Locations group, choose Manage.
- On the location's card, turn off Use on this device (Off: this device does not open its cameras. Your other devices are not changed.).
- The switch shows only when you have two or more locations.
- To switch it back on, turn Use on this device on again, or choose Turn On Here on Live.
