Why is the time in the picture wrong?
The time drawn on a camera's picture comes from the camera's own clock. Events, clips and Hub footage use this device's or the Hub's clock. Set the camera's time server to bring them together.
Two clocks
The date and time drawn on a camera's picture come from the camera's own clock. SecureEyes stamps events and clips with this device's clock, and a Hub stamps its footage with the Hub's clock. When the picture and SecureEyes disagree, trust the time in SecureEyes, as long as this device (or the Hub) sets its clock from the network.
- A camera that cannot reach a time server keeps its own time, and its clock drifts minutes slow or fast. Some cameras ship set to a time server that does not exist, so they never set their clock at all.
- A difference of a few minutes, or of whole hours, between the picture and Events, Clips or a Hub's Footage is the camera's clock. The recording itself is not late or early.
Check this device's clock
- iPhone and iPad: open the Settings app, then General, Date & Time, and turn on Set Automatically.
- Mac: open System Settings, then General, Date & Time, and turn on Set time and date automatically.
- In a location with a Hub, footage uses the Hub's clock. The Hub's page shows whether it is set from the network: Settings, then the Time tab.
Set the camera's clock
- Find the camera's address in SecureEyes. See Change a camera's name, location or address.
- On a computer on the same network, type that address into a browser, for example http://192.168.1.64, and sign in with the camera's administrator account.
- Open the camera's time settings. They are often under System, Time or Date and Time; the names differ by brand.
- Choose to set the time from an NTP server, and enter one the camera can reach, for example pool.ntp.org, or your router's address if it serves the time.
- Check that the camera's time zone is where the camera is.
- Save, wait a minute, then compare the time in the picture with the time on this device.
- A camera that cannot reach the internet cannot use pool.ntp.org. Use your router's address if it serves the time, or set the time by hand and check it again every few weeks, because it drifts.
- Changing a camera's clock does not change any event, clip or footage already saved.
