Help for the Hub
The always-on box that records your cameras.
/
Getting started
- What is the SecureEyes Hub?An always-on Linux box in your home that keeps one connection to each camera, records to a disk you own, and serves every phone, tablet, Mac and browser in the house. It needs a Pro licence.
- How much disk and what box do I need?Work out the disk from how many cameras you record and for how long, then choose a box by what you want to show on a screen.
- Install the HubOne command installs the Hub on a 64-bit Linux box, checks the download's signature, and starts it on port 8443.
- Set up a new HubClaim the Hub with SecureEyes on a device that has Pro: scan the code on its screen or web page, or claim it without a code in its first 15 minutes. The app then activates Pro for it. A browser can also claim it with the link the installer printed.
- Give the Hub a recording diskThe Hub will not record onto the disk it boots from. Plug in a USB SSD or fit an NVMe drive, then choose it on the Storage tab.
- Set up a recording disk for a Hub in a containerA Hub in a container cannot format or mount a disk. On Proxmox it can set the disk up for you from the host's API token or password; elsewhere the page gives you the host's commands.
- Add cameras to the HubThe app moves its cameras to the Hub when you pair it. On the Hub's web page you can also scan for cameras or add one by its address.
Cameras & recording
- Change a camera's settings on the HubRename a camera, set the text it burns into its picture, change its stream quality and connection mode, or remove it, from its page on the Hub.
- Record cameras continuously on the HubTurn recording on per camera, choose the stream and how long footage is kept, and read why a camera set to record is not recording.
- Record to a network sharePoint the Hub's recordings at an SMB share on a NAS. The Hub mounts it soft, so a NAS that goes away costs a gap, not a stuck Hub.
- Watch recorded footage on the Hub's web pagePick a camera and a day on the Footage page, then play, scrub, jump between motion and change speed.
- Save, download and delete clipsA clip is a piece of recorded footage the Hub keeps for good. Save one from Footage or from an event, then play, download or delete it under Clips.
- Browse motion events on the Hub's web pageEach time a camera reports motion, the Hub keeps one still. Browse them by the hour, filter by camera and time of day, and jump to the footage.
- Show cameras on a screen plugged into the HubPlug a screen into the Hub, lay out a wall on the Wall page, and push it. The screen shows each camera with its name and state.
Using the Hub
- Find your way around the Hub's web pageWhat each part of the Hub's web page is for: the rail, the Settings tabs, the status chip, the banners and the Overview.
- Sign in to the Hub's web pageThe page shows a QR. Scan it with SecureEyes on a device that already uses the Hub and choose Sign in: the browser signs itself in. Nothing to type.
- Who can use your HubEvery device paired with the Hub is an admin: phones, tablets, Macs and signed-in browsers. Pair and remove them from the Hub's page or from the app.
- Watch your cameras from outside the houseThe Hub can keep a line open outward to the SecureEyes relay, so the people who use it can watch away from home. It is off until someone turns it on in the app, at home.Preview
- Update the HubThe Hub finds new versions itself: choose Check, then Get <version>, in the Software row on its Overview. It installs only a version signed with the SecureEyes release key, and keeps everything it holds. An older Hub that says no update feed configured is updated once from the box.
- Restart the Hub or reboot its boxRestart the Hub from its page when something is stuck; reboot the whole box when that does not help. The page has no shut down.
- Back up the Hub or move it to another boxA backup is one file with everything the Hub needs to be itself: identity, pairings, cameras, licence and settings. Footage is not in it.
- Set the Hub's clock and time zoneSet the Hub's time zone, and where its clock comes from, under Settings, Time. The zone decides the Hub's own local time and the clock on a screen plugged into it.
- Reset a Hub to newA reset wipes everything the Hub made, its identity and licence too, and it starts again with no owner. Do it from the Hub's page, the app, or the box's own terminal.
Licence
- How the Hub's licence worksThe SecureEyes app on the device that holds the Pro purchase activates the Hub's licence over the internet, and renews it. The Hub never renews it by itself. One Pro purchase covers 3 Hubs.
- When the Hub is blockedA Hub that has an owner and no valid licence stops serving and recording, and says why. Nothing is deleted. Each cause has its own code, SE-STA-028 to SE-STA-032.
Troubleshooting
- When the recording disk is full, missing or refusedWhat SE-STA-006, SE-STA-015 and SE-STA-027 mean on the Hub's web page, and what to do for each.
- No device that used the Hub is leftIf every device that used the Hub is lost, sign in on the Hub machine over SSH and pair a new device, or reset the Hub. If every device was removed, restart the Hub and set it up again.
- Look up a Hub error codeHub errors carry a permanent SE-STA code. Find yours here, then open the article it points to.
